​Permanent Resident

1. Legal requirements

(1) Be of good conduct

(2) having sufficient assets or skills to make an independent living;

*Note) In the case of a spouse or child of a Japanese, permanent resident or special permanent resident, it is not necessary to comply with 1 and 2.

 

2. Special provision for 10-year stay in principle

(1) In the case of a spouse of a Japanese national, permanent resident or special permanent resident, the person has been married in real life for 3 years or longer and has stayed in Japan for 1 year or longer. In the case of the child, etc., they must have stayed in Japan continuously for at least one year.

(2) Those who have stayed in Japan continuously for more than 5 years with the status of residence of Long-Term Resident"

(3) If you have been recognized as a refugee, you must have resided in Japan continuously for at least 5 years after recognition.

(4) Those who are recognized to have contributed to Japan in the fields of diplomacy, society, economy, culture, etc., and have resided in Japan for at least five years.

(5) Immigration control and refugee status at public and private institutions located within the area specified in the regional revitalization plan approved under Article 5, Paragraph 16 of the Regional Revitalization Act (Act No. 24 of 2005) Based on the provisions of Article 7, Paragraph 1, Item 2 of the Accreditation Act (Ministry of Justice Notification No. 131, 1990) No. 36 or 37, which stipulates the activities listed in the right column of Appended Table 1-5 of the Act In the case of a person who engages in any of the above activities and is deemed to have contributed to Japan through such activities, he/she must have stayed in Japan continuously for 3 years or more.

(6) When points are calculated as specified in the Ministerial Ordinance (hereinafter referred to as the Ministerial Ordinance for Highly Skilled Professionals) that stipulates the criteria for the right-hand column of the Highly Skilled Professionals section of Appended Table 1-2 of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act. Those who have 70 points or more in the following and fall under any of the following

a. Those who have resided in Japan continuously for more than three years as a highly-skilled foreign professional.

b) A person who has been residing in Japan continuously for three years or more, and has a score of 70 points or more when calculating the points prescribed in the Ordinance of the Ministry of Highly Skilled Professionals based on the point three years before the date of application for permission for permanent residence. be recognized as having done so.

(7) A person who has a score of 80 or more when calculating the points prescribed in the Ordinance of the Ministry of Highly Skilled Professionals, and who falls under any of the following.

a. Those who have been residing in Japan continuously for more than one year as a "highly-skilled foreign professional.

b) A person who has been residing in Japan continuously for one year or more, and has a score of 80 points or more when calculating the points prescribed in the Ordinance of the Ministry of Highly Skilled Professionals based on the point one year before the date of application for permission for permanent residence. be recognized as having done so.
